The hanging acoustic screen separates without enclosing: an openwork acoustic room divider in PET felt, suspended from the ceiling, that zones the space, lets light through and absorbs noise on the way. Over twenty cut-out patterns, made-to-measure, fire-certified for public buildings.

The principle
Open spaces face a permanent dilemma: they were designed open for the light and the flow, but everything can be heard in them. Closing off offices or putting up solid partitions means giving up what made them good in the first place. The hanging acoustic screen answers in between: an openwork surface that marks the visual boundary, filters sightlines, lets light through, and whose every square centimetre of material absorbs sound instead of sending it back.
Position does a lot of the work: suspended in mid-air, the screen intercepts sound waves on their direct path, between a calls zone and a focus zone for example. An absorbent wall can only treat what reaches it; the suspended acoustic partition sits exactly where the noise travels. A row of cut-out panels between two teams is often enough to bring down the nuisance of direct voice, without touching the building.
Unlike a solid acoustic partition, the hanging screen embraces the openwork: the aim is not to block sound but to absorb it and break its trajectories. To understand this nuance between absorption and insulation, see our article on acoustic treatment.

The patterns
The hanging screen is a graphic product: the cut-out makes the style. The catalogue counts over twenty patterns across two worlds. On the botanical and organic side: foliage, bamboo, feathers, flights of birds, scatters of drops or petals, for a soft boundary that evokes a green curtain. On the geometric side: diamonds, cubes in perspective, bricks, weaves, rays and scatters of circles, more urban, perfect for an open-plan office or a contemporary reception.
Each pattern plays on a different open ratio, roughly between 30 and 50 % of void. The more open the pattern, the more light and sightlines pass; the denser it is, the more the absorbent surface and the privacy increase. You choose the pattern by the function of the boundary: dense behind a reception desk, airy between two circulation zones.
All patterns cut in the 36 shades of the colour chart, in 9 or 12 mm. And if your project calls for an exclusive pattern (a brand motif, an architect's drawing), we cut it from your file, with a proof before production, just like our made-to-measure printed panels.
Where to install it
The screen replaces the partition whenever closing off would lose more than it gains.
A row of hanging screens between two teams breaks direct voice and marks out territories, without darkening the floor or blocking movement.
Between two rows of tables or around a private lounge, the screen creates intimacy for diners and absorbs the ambient hubbub.
Suspended behind the reception desk or as an entrance signal, it structures the volume, filters sightlines and calms the echo of busy spaces.
Around a coffee corner or a calls zone, the screen marks the sound bubble and signals the use of the place without a sign.
Performance
The question comes up on every project: can a panel full of holes absorb noise? The answer holds in two figures. First the material: PET felt shows a coefficient of NRC 0.80 to 0.85, measured in the laboratory to ISO 354. Then the open ratio: a screen cut at 40 % keeps 60 % of solid surface, so most of the absorbing power, while gaining the transparency that makes it worthwhile.
Above all, the screen works in the open sound field. Suspended in the middle of the volume, it presents both faces to the waves: sound passes through it, rubs against it, loses energy in it, and in both directions. For the same surface, an absorber in mid-air treats more sound paths than a panel flat against a wall. It is the same principle as our ceiling baffles, turned vertical.
One point deserves honesty: a hanging screen does not replace a solid partition when you need strict confidentiality (a confidential meeting room, an executive office). It reduces the nuisance and structures the space; it does not make a conversation inaudible. For that need, see our solid acoustic partitions instead.

The install
The most common mode is suspension by adjustable steel cables, fixed to the slab or to a track. A felt panel weighs a few kilos: no heavy structure needed, and the millimetre adjustment of the cables lets you align a row perfectly. You can hang a single panel as a signal, a continuous line as a boundary, or several staggered panels in depth for a contemporary mashrabiya effect.
Two alternatives depending on the place: mounting on weighted feet, when the ceiling is not accessible or the boundary needs to move (events, flexible floors), and flat wall mounting, where the screen becomes an openwork decor set a few centimetres off the wall, with its cast shadow.
Every order ships with its fixings, its layout plan and recommendations for your ceiling (concrete, suspended ceiling, beams). Installing a row takes half a day, with no major building work and no dust.
Certified measurements
Absorption measured by SGS in a reverberation room (ISO 354, type E mounting with a 200 mm air cavity). Test reports are supplied with every quote.

Alpha-s absorption coefficient per octave band. NRC = average at 250, 500, 1000 and 2000 Hz (SGS reports CZIN2502000039CM01 and CZIN2502000038CM01).
EN 13501-1:2018 (SBI EN 13823 + EN ISO 11925-2 tests): low contribution to fire, s1 smoke, no flaming droplets. Valid for walls, ceilings and free-standing partitions.
ASTM E84-2024: flame spread index 5 (Class A is 0 to 25), smoke developed index 300. The level required for interior walls and ceilings.
VOC emissions tested to ISO 16000: formaldehyde and TVOC not detected on day 7. French A+ label (decree 2011-321), certificate valid until 04/2029.
Felt made from recycled PET bottles, spun then heat-pressed. Production audited to FSC and GRS (Global Recycled Standard), tested by SGS, Intertek and TÜV.

Suspending an element in a public-access building demands a serious fire rating. Our felt is certified EN 13501-1 B-s1,d0, a classification valid as a free-standing partition and as a suspended element: low contribution to fire, very little smoke, no flaming droplets. The report comes with the order, ready for the safety commission. Wooden screens, rarely rated, struggle to pass this step.
On maintenance, the felt only asks for a pass with a soft-brush vacuum from time to time; the cut-outs do not hold dust the way horizontal slats do. The material does not yellow, does not crumble, and its recycled share is detailed on the PET felt data sheet.
