Fluted panels: the ribbed wall.

The Fluted panels collection gives our acoustic wall panels a continuous vertical rhythm: broad waves or tight flutes, like corduroy velvet scaled up to the whole room. The spirit of wood slats, with the felt's absorption over the full surface: NRC 0.85, fire-certified for public buildings.

The collection

The rhythm of wood slats, without their compromise.

The wall lined with vertical ribs has become a signature of well-designed interiors, made popular by wood slat panels. The trouble with wood slats is the acoustics: wood is reflective, only the felt slipped behind the battens absorbs, and the whole assembly usually tops out between NRC 0.4 and 0.6. Our fluted panels take the opposite approach: the entire profile is moulded in felt, troughs and crests alike. Every square centimetre absorbs.

The result is measurable: NRC 0.80 at 9 mm, NRC 0.85 at 12 mm, like all our wall panels. And the waved relief adds an effect of its own: the ribs break raking reflections and diffuse the residual sound, where a flat wall would send it back as flutter echo.

Visually, ribbed felt has a personality of its own: softer than wood, matt, colourful (36 shades against a handful of wood species), and it bends around curves. For a full comparison with wood slats, see the decorative acoustic panels page.

The eight profiles

From the big wave to the fine groove.

The BW (Big Wave) series draws four broad undulations: waves 38 to 95 mm wide, deep, with a strong presence, that catch the light hard. It is the choice for the signature wall, the one people notice as they walk in: behind a reception desk, at the head of a restaurant dining room, in a generous stairwell.

The BL series lines up four finer, tighter flutes, from the discreet 15 mm groove to the marked rhythm: the famous corduroy velvet look. Softer on the eye, it suits large surfaces without tiring the gaze: hotel corridors, back walls of open-plan offices, meeting rooms. In strips 2400 mm high, fitted edge to edge, the joints vanish into the ribs: the wall looks woven in a single piece.

Both series share the 36 shades of the colour chart. A tone-on-tone scheme across wall and ceiling carries the rhythm overhead; a two-shade contrast between dado and upper wall structures the surface with no other decor needed.

Where to fit it

Wherever the wall has to set the rhythm.

Fluted panels structure the space through repetition, without overloading the decor.

Reception & lobby

The big BW wave behind the reception desk: an instant signature effect, and the lobby's echo drops with it.

Restaurant & bar

BL flutes in warm tones bring the dining room the warmth of panelling, with the absorption on top.

Meeting room

A ribbed wall at the head of the table absorbs the voice and composes an elegant, glare-free video call backdrop.

Curves & rounded corners

The felt bends: the profiles hug a bowed wall or a rounded corner, exactly where rigid wood slats have to stop.

The install

Strips fitted edge to edge, joints lost in the ribs.

The 2400 mm strips are bonded vertically with mounting adhesive, edge to edge. That is the strength of the fluted profile: the joint between two strips falls into a trough and disappears in the rhythm of the ribs. No cover strip, no visible seam: the wall undulates as one piece, from the first centimetre to the last.

The felt weighs around 2 kg/m² and recuts with a utility knife: height trimmed to the room, cut-outs around sockets and switches, clean stops at the end of a wall. On gentle curves, the strip bends as it is fitted, with no scoring and no added thickness. For a flat ceiling application, panels are bonded and screwed one by one.

Every order ships with its layout plan and recommendations for your surface. The general guide is in the article how to mount an acoustic panel.

Getting it right

Which profile for which room?

The choice of profile follows the size of the room. The big BW waves need viewing distance: seen from less than three metres, their undulation dominates the eye and visually shrinks the space. Save them for lobbies, large rooms and walls discovered from afar. The BL flutes, on the other hand, work at every distance: fine and regular, they read as a material rather than a pattern, even in a narrow corridor.

The ceiling height matters too: vertical lines pull the room upwards. In a low volume (2.40 m), a floor-to-ceiling BL wall easily gains thirty centimetres to the eye. Conversely, in a stairwell or a double-height lobby, the broad BW waves fill the verticality without looking stretched.

Finally, dose the treated surface: one ribbed wall per room is almost always enough. The vertical rhythm draws the eye; two fluted walls facing each other compete for attention and tire it. The right formula: the main wall in fluted panels, the neighbouring walls in plain felt of the same or a close shade, to keep the absorption going without multiplying patterns.

Hesitating between two profiles? The quote can include a render of both options on a photo of your wall: you decide on an image, at real scale. And if the room stacks up constraints (short viewing distance, low ceiling, strong side light), simply say so in your request: we steer you straight to the profiles that work in your configuration, rather than leaving you to choose blind from the catalogue.

What the order includes

From samples to the layout plan.

The look of a fluted profile is hard to judge from a photo: ask for samples of the profiles you are considering, in your shades, to see the shadow of the ribs under your own lighting. The quote then details every strip at its exact dimensions, room height included, and can add a render of the two finalist profiles on a photo of your wall.

Delivery includes the strips numbered to match the layout plan, bonding recommendations for your surface, and the full technical file: EN 13501-1 B-s1,d0 fire classification report and measured absorption data sheet. All shipped DDP in 10 to 15 working days, duties and taxes included.

Frequently asked questions

Fluted panels: your questions.

What is a fluted acoustic panel?
It is a PET felt wall panel whose surface forms continuous vertical waves or flutes, like corduroy velvet scaled up to a full wall. Eight profiles make up the collection (BW and BL series), from the fine, tight groove to the broad, generous wave. The panel keeps the felt's absorption (NRC 0.80 to 0.85): it is a finish of our wall panels, with the same certifications.
Felt flutes or wood slats?
The rhythmic look is close, the performance is not. A wood slat panel only absorbs through the felt placed behind the battens, the wood itself staying reflective: real NRC of 0.4 to 0.6 in most cases. Our fluted panels are felt over the entire surface, troughs and crests alike: NRC 0.80 to 0.85 measured. They also weigh two to four times less, bend around curves and pass public-building requirements with a certified B-s1,d0 fire rating.
Which profiles make up the collection?
Eight profiles in two series. The BW (Big Wave) profiles draw broad, soft undulations with a strong presence, ideal for a signature wall. The BL profiles line up finer, tighter flutes, from the discreet groove to the marked rhythm, for a corduroy velvet look. All are fitted as vertical strips 2400 mm high, in the 36 shades of the colour chart.
Can fluted panels dress a ceiling?
Yes. The fluted profiles can also be fitted flat against the ceiling, where they carry the wall's rhythm overhead and treat the most troublesome reflection in a room. For a suspended ceiling treatment (baffles, rafts), look at our ceiling range instead: the two combine very well, flutes around the edges and baffles in the centre.
How are the fluted strips installed?
As vertical strips bonded with mounting adhesive, edge to edge: the flutes naturally hide the joints and the wall looks like a single piece. The felt bends around gentle curves (rounded corners, bowed walls), a result impossible with rigid wood slats. Around 2 kg/m²: a full wall is fitted in a few hours, with no major building work.
Which shades and what lead times?
The 36 shades of the colour chart are available on every profile, from discreet greige to deep terracotta. The quote is free and costed within 48 h; made-to-measure manufacturing and DDP delivery (duties and taxes included) in 10 to 15 working days, with the B-s1,d0 fire classification report supplied.
